PVDF machining
Custom PVDF (Kynar®) parts CNC machined to your drawing or sample: manifolds, housings, bellows, gaskets and more. Machined in our Aurora, Illinois shop.
PVDF at a glance
- Full name
- Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)
- Also called
- Kynar®, fluoropolymer
- Known for
- Strong chemical resistance, with far more stiffness and strength than PTFE
- Purity
- Natural grades are common in high-purity water, pharmaceutical and semiconductor equipment
- Grades
- Homopolymer, copolymer, food-contact, static-dissipative

Is PVDF right for the part?
Where PVDF works, and where another plastic may suit
General guidance on how PVDF behaves. If your drawing names PVDF, we machine to it.
Where it works
- Chemicals
- Resists most acids, salts and many solvents.
- Stiffness
- Far stiffer and stronger than PTFE, for structural parts.
- Abrasion
- Resists wear better than other fluoropolymers.
- Water
- Takes on almost no water.
- Weather
- Unaffected by sunlight and weather.
- Fire
- Resists burning and puts itself out.
Where another plastic may suit
| If the part needs | Often used instead |
|---|---|
| Strong alkalis or solvents like acetone These can attack PVDF. PTFE resists both. ECTFE and polypropylene handle strong alkalis well. | |
| Higher heat PVDF works well into high heat, but PTFE and PEEK go further. | |
| Low friction or non-stick PVDF is not a low-friction plastic. PTFE is. | |
| Milder chemicals at lower cost PVDF is one of the costlier plastics. For milder chemicals, these cost less. |
Grades
PVDF grades
PVDF comes in homopolymer and copolymer grades, including high-purity and food-contact grades. Name the grade on your drawing, or tell us how the part runs and we’ll suggest one.
| Grade | Typically used for |
|---|---|
| Homopolymer | Most PVDF parts. The stiffest and strongest grade. |
| Copolymer | Parts that need more flexibility and impact resistance, including in the cold. |
| Natural (high purity) | Ultrapure water, pharmaceutical and semiconductor equipment. |
| Food-contact | Food and beverage processing parts. |
| Static-dissipative | Parts where static build-up must be controlled, such as in solvent handling or electronics. |

All plastics we machineYes. Kynar® is a brand name for PVDF. If your drawing says Kynar, we machine it in PVDF. CDS isn’t affiliated with the trademark owner.
Both are fluoropolymers with strong chemical resistance. PTFE resists more chemicals and higher heat and has lower friction, but it’s soft. PVDF is much stiffer and stronger and resists wear better, so it suits structural parts like manifolds and housings. We machine whichever your drawing names, or suggest one with your quote.
Polypropylene resists many acids and alkalis and costs less. PVDF handles stronger acids, more solvents and higher heat, and resists sunlight. We machine whichever your drawing names, or suggest a suitable plastic with your quote.
