Parts in ECTFE

ECTFE parts we machine

The parts we see most often in ECTFE, and why it suits each job. We machine any ECTFE part to your drawing or sample, listed here or not.

Is ECTFE right for the part?

Where ECTFE works, and where another plastic may suit

General guidance on how ECTFE behaves. If your drawing names ECTFE or Halar®, we machine to it.

Where it works

Chemicals
Resists strong acids, caustics and chlorine.
Toughness
Takes knocks without cracking, even in the cold.
Surface
A smooth surface that resists buildup.
Water
Takes on almost no water.

Where another plastic may suit

Where another plastic may suit
If the part needs Often used instead
Lower cost When the chemistry allows it, these cost less.
Higher heat For parts that run hotter than ECTFE handles.
Sliding wear ECTFE isn’t a bearing plastic. These run against shafts and slides.

Precision in ECTFE

How we machine ECTFE

±0.002"–±0.005" On critical dimensions, depending on the plastic

ECTFE is stable and takes on almost no water, so it machines to close size. Heat at the cut and clean edges are what we control. We confirm the critical dimensions with your quote.

  1. Heat at the cut

Heat from cutting can smear the surface.

We keep tools sharp and the cut cool.

  2. Burrs at ports and edges

ECTFE is tough and can leave burrs.

We deburr ports, threads and edges.

  3. Thin walls

Thin sections can move as they’re cut.

We support them in the fixture and take light finishing passes.

Compare

ECTFE or another fluoropolymer

ECTFE is mostly bought as one natural grade. Here’s how it compares with the other fluoropolymers it’s most often weighed against. If your drawing specifies one, we machine to it; if not, tell us how the part is used and we’ll suggest a plastic.

Plastic Typically chosen for
ECTFE Chemical parts that need more than PVDF can handle.
PVDF Stiffer chemical parts at lower cost. PVDF
PTFE Highest heat and lowest friction. PTFE
PCTFE Cryogenic seats and seals that must hold their shape. PCTFE

Buyer questions

ECTFE FAQs

Halar® is a brand name for ECTFE. If your drawing names Halar, we machine ECTFE to it. CDS isn’t affiliated with the trademark owner.

ECTFE handles strong caustics better and stays tougher in the cold. PVDF is stiffer and costs less. If your drawing specifies one, we machine to it.

Yes. We supply ECTFE sheet and rod, cut to size when you need it, through our material supply service.
