PPSU parts we machine

The parts we see most often in PPSU, and why it suits each job. We machine any PPSU part to your drawing or sample, listed here or not.

Where PPSU works, and where another plastic may suit

General guidance on how PPSU behaves. If your drawing specifies a PPSU grade or Radel®, we machine to it.

Where it works

Toughness
Takes impact that would crack many rigid plastics.
Sterilization
Lasts through repeated steam cycles.
Heat
Holds its strength at higher temperatures than PSU.
Cleaning
Stands up to common cleaning and disinfecting chemicals.

Where another plastic may suit

Where another plastic may suit
If the part needs Often used instead
Lower cost When the part doesn’t need PPSU’s toughness, these cost less.
Sliding wear PPSU isn’t a bearing plastic. These run against shafts and slides.
Higher heat When the part runs hotter, or meets harsher chemicals, than PPSU handles.

Precision in PPSU

How we machine PPSU

±0.002"–±0.005" On critical dimensions, depending on the plastic

PPSU is a stable plastic, so it machines to close size. Heat and coolant at the cut are what we control. We confirm the critical dimensions with your quote.

  1. Heat at the cut

Heat from cutting can leave stress that shows up as cracks after steam cycles.

We keep tools sharp and the cut cool.

  2. Coolants

Some cutting fluids can attack sulfone plastics.

We use coolants that are safe for PPSU, or cut dry with air.

  3. Handled parts

Handles and housings are held every day.

We deburr and break edges to your drawing.

Grades

PPSU grades

PPSU comes unfilled and glass-filled. Name the grade on your drawing, or tell us how the part is used and we’ll suggest one.

PPSU grades
Grade Typically used for
Unfilled Handles, fittings and housings. The most common choice.
Glass-filled Stiffer parts that hold close size under load.
PSU When the part needs to be more see-through. PSU
PEEK When the part also needs wear resistance. PEEK

Buyer questions

PPSU FAQs

PPSU is tougher and lasts through more sterilization cycles. PSU costs less and is more see-through. If your drawing specifies one, we machine to it.

Radel® is a brand of PPSU. If your drawing specifies it, we machine to it. CDS isn’t affiliated with the trademark owner.

Yes. We supply PPSU sheet and rod, cut to size when you need it, through our material supply service.
