What your insulator does
It holds a part and breaks a path
An insulator isn’t just plastic that doesn’t conduct. It supports or separates a live or heated part as well. These are the common forms.
| Form | What it does | What we machine | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barriers and plates | What it does Separate live parts inside an enclosure or panel. | What we machine Sheet profiles, slots, cut-outs and hole patterns. | |
| Terminal boards and blocks | What it does Carry terminals or connections on an insulating base. | What we machine Drilled and tapped patterns, pockets and steps. | |
| Bus-bar supports | What it does Hold conductors in position and apart. | What we machine Slots, steps and mounting faces. | |
| Sleeves and bushes | What it does Line a hole so a bolt or shaft doesn’t touch the metal around it. | What we machine Turned bores, outside diameters and shoulders. | |
| Thermal blocks and pads | What it does Separate a heated part from the frame it mounts to. | What we machine Faces, pockets and fastener holes. |

Grade and specification
Machined to the exact grade
Insulating laminates such as G10 come in several grades, and their properties change with the grade, the thickness and the direction of the glass weave. We machine to the grade and specification on your drawing.
Example grade specification
- Material & grade
- G10
- The exact grade, not just the resin family.
- Thickness
- 0.250"
- Laminate properties change with thickness.
- Weave direction
- LW / CW
- Which way the layers run in the finished part.
- Source document
- Spec / sheet
- The standard or supplier sheet the grade comes from.
- We machine to the full grade on your drawing.
- Insulating or static-dissipative? Some assemblies need a part that bleeds static rather than holds it. We machine both, to the grade on your drawing.

Ratings come from the exact grade, thickness and test in your specification. We machine to the grade you name; we don’t rate the finished part.
We can match its shape. The grade comes from your records or specification, so send any drawing, part number or spec with the part.
We hold ±0.002" to ±0.005" on critical dimensions, depending on the material. We review your drawing and confirm the critical dimensions with your quote.
Timing depends on the insulator, material and quantity, and comes with your quote. For an emergency breakdown, ask about our expedited service.

What does yours do?
Mounting and electrical parts are easiest to name by their job. We machine almost any plastic part, so if yours isn’t here, describe it in a quote request.
- Breaks an electrical or heat path Insulators
- Ring at a joint or bore Insulating rings
- Sets a mounted height Standoffs
- Sets a gap Spacers
