Custom machined standoffs that mount a board, panel or component at a set height, in engineered plastics, aluminum, brass or bronze. Made to your drawing or from the old part, from one piece to production runs.

What we machine to

Height, two ends and the body between

A standoff sets the distance between two surfaces and carries the fastener between them. Read yours top to bottom.

DIAGRAM: board, standoff and chassis stacked vertically; top end, body, installed height, bottom end and through bore labeled (no dimensions)
  1. Top end Mates to the board or panel

Female thread, male stud or plain bore. Thread size and engagement depth.

  2. Body Round or hex

Outside diameter or across-flats size, plus any shoulder, flange or counterbore.

  3. Installed height The key dimension

The distance it sets between the two surfaces. Held to the tolerance on your drawing.

  4. Bottom end Mates to the chassis

Female thread, male stud or plain bore, the same choices as the top end.

  5. Through bore If the fastener passes through

Bore size and whether it runs the full length.

Common configurations

  • Female–female
  • Male–female
  • Male–male
  • Plain bore
  • Shouldered
  • Flanged
  • Hex body

Threads in a plastic standoff

Cut into the plastic, or an insert fitted

Put the thread size, depth and any assembly torque on your drawing, and we’ll machine to it.

  • Threads cut into the plastic

Internal or external threads machined directly into the standoff to your drawing.

Often used where the part goes together once, or the load is light.

  • Threaded inserts fitted

Helical or threaded inserts fitted before shipping, for a stronger thread that takes repeated assembly. Assembly service

Tell us the insert type and size, or let your drawing specify it.

Replacing a standoff?

Why standoffs are replaced

Common reasons, not a diagnosis.

Send the old standoff with the hardware it mates with, and tell us whether the height, threads or faces are worn.

  1. Stripped or pulled-out threads Threads that let go during assembly or under load.
  2. Lost height The standoff has shortened under a constant clamping load or heat.
  3. Cracked shoulder Cracks where the body steps down to a shoulder or stud.
  4. Distorted mounting face A face that’s no longer flat against the board or chassis.
  5. Loosening Fasteners that won’t stay tight in the standoff.
  6. Size change Moisture growth in some plastics, such as nylon.

Getting a quote

Materials for standoffs

Chosen by what the standoff needs

Name the material and grade on your drawing, or tell us how the part is used and we’ll suggest suitable materials. These are common choices; we machine most engineering plastics.

Static-dissipative grades are also machined. Tell us whether the part must insulate or provide a dissipative path.

A standoff sets a height and carries the fastener, usually through threads at its ends. A spacer is a plain sleeve that sets a gap. Your drawing decides which you need, and we machine both.

We hold ±0.002" to ±0.005" on critical dimensions, depending on the material. We confirm the installed height and other critical dimensions with the quote.

Timing depends on the standoff, material and quantity, and comes with your quote. For an emergency breakdown, ask about our expedited service.

What does yours do?

Mounting parts are easiest to name by their job. We machine almost any plastic part, so if yours isn’t here, describe it in a quote request.
