Where the bumper takes the hit
Contact face, body and mount
A bumper is a contact face, a body that sets the stop, and a mount that holds it to the machine.
-
What strikes it
A product, carriage, gate or moving arm meets the bumper at the end of its travel.

We machine
- Face size and shape
- Edge breaks and radii
- Fasteners set below the face

Sets how far the moving part travels before it stops.

Replacing a bumper?
Why bumpers are replaced
Common signs, and what each one changes on the machine. Your maintenance team makes the call.
-
Worn face
The contact face has worn down or grooved.
The stop position moves, or a fastener or the backing is exposed.
-
Cracked or chipped
Pieces break away after repeated strikes.
Loose fragments, and an uneven face that changes the contact.
-
Flattened
The bumper has lost height under repeated hits.
The moving part travels further before it stops.
-
Pulled-through holes
Holes stretched oval or fasteners pulling through.
The bumper shifts and no longer lines up with what it stops.
-
Marking the product
Scuffs or marks where the face meets the product.
Rejected or damaged product at the stop.
-
Softened or swollen
Heat, moisture or chemicals have changed its size or face.
The fit and the stop position change.
Send the old bumper with a photo of it in place. A worn bumper may have lost height, so tell us the stopped position if you know it.

Plastics for bumpers and stops
Common choices, and why
- UHMW Tough and abrasion-resistant, with a low-friction face. A common choice for wear and impact pads.
- HDPE Tough and economical for pads and blocks.
- Nylon Strong and wear-resistant. It takes on moisture, which we allow for when machining.
- Acetal Stiff and dimensionally stable, so it holds a precise stop position.
- Polyurethane A softer, more resilient face where the contact needs a little give.
